Red Dot Revolution
In 2011, as part of Matter and Meaning, the predecessor to On Location, I wrote a blog post titled A Rare Breed. I had been pleasantly surprised by the European Man Brooch Phenomenon and thought it important enough to document. You can read the post at: http://matterandmeaning.blogspot.com.au/2011/03/rare-breed.html
The last line reads: 'So Dad, if you're reading this, watch out. It's brooch time.'
Ladies and gentlemen, in the aftermath of Schmuck, the unthinkable has happened. A revolution is upon us! My dad wore a brooch to work. It was my souvenir for him from Munich - the least expensive piece of jewellery made by the most famous of contemporary jewellers - Otto Kunzli's Red Dot.
This brooch has become a fixture on my dad's suit jacket. His complaints? He objects to the word brooch, 'it is a pin...NOT a brooch', but more importantly no one has commented on it!
There is still hope - if a deeply conservative 67 year old CEO who even finds coloured shirts a shocking phenomenon but is now wearing a brooch, then the world of jewellery for men can change too.

Brigit
After seeing Ela's aprons, I decided to look at my own... Here it is 3 years of making, acid holes, paint from painting grad show plinths, remnants of my attempts at ceramics and its nice pink tint from when I tried to wash it. It is interesting what they capture, almost making them a artwork on there own...
Paris Catacombs
Hello everyone back home! I just thought you might like to see some pictures from the Paris Catacombs, which show just how dedicated we are to getting a good photo...
For those of you who don't know what the Catacombs are, its a tunnel which runs for 2km under the streets of Paris, lined with human bones and skulls from the 18th century. According to Wikipedia, a trusty and reliable resource, the Paris Catacombs contain the bones of more than 6 million people.
So as I was saying, we decided to be a little creative with our photography, as well as a little bit illegal. Yes... we pulled the bones out from the walls and played with them. But who wouldn't have done the same...
As Georgia pointed out shortly afterwards, we're now possibly under the curse of the Catacombs. Queens of the damned....
This is our love letter to you Karin!

Glad Påsk from Sweden
Happy Easter from Sweden!
Here are some of the festive traditions we've experienced over the long weekend: visiting the Easter market, decorating the påskris, painting eggs and becoming the witch (face painting). We've learnt so much about the Swedish culture while we've been here, particular over Easter.
Easter in Sweden is a secular holiday, where it is tradition for children to to paint their faces and dress up as witches to go door knocking for candy. Sound familiar...?

Kate and Georgia's 1 Month Travel Anniversary
While you've all been settling back into uni and classes, Georgia and myself have been in Stockholm, with the lovely Safira. For the last few days though, we've been in Swedish Lapland - Kiruna - where we've experienced minus 15 degrees and a number of winter related activities, which as of tonight has included seeing The Northern Lights. How could we not post about this, nor use it as inspiration for our souvenir project?! Unfortunately none of the photos we took came out, but instead here's some pictures of The Ice Hotel, which we also saw today! Enjoy!
