Stephanie's day Drie in AMSTERDAM!

Mike Kelley

The collection that we saw today, at the Stadlijk Museum, was the realised collection, in chronological order of Mike Kelley's life work. Being able to watch the growth and recurrence of ideas through his work and life presents for me, a fascinating insight into both Kelley's experiences, perspectives and outlooks, but also as an expressive example of the way social parameters, norms and expectations influence the mental state of a person within his context, over the timespan of his life. As like other artists who refuse to maintain the sacred symbols of culture and religion, Kelley presents blasphemous imagery coupled with and juxtaposed against the innocence of childhood, and then again with less modest aspects of life - giving a blunt and intense reflection on his perspective. We had Hollandse Rijsttafel for dinner at Moeders (mother's). It was scrum-diddily-umptious.
